    By counting cold events, duration, and symptoms before, during, and after the trip, participants taking elderberry had an average cold duration of 2 days (4.75 vs. 6.88) and experienced relatively less severe symptoms (3:1 recovery, 21 vs. 34 average symptom score) compared with placebo. Those with the longest cold duration and highest symptom scores were in the placebo group. It was confirmed that elderberry extract was beneficial to respiratory health, significantly reducing the number of cold days in patients and alleviating cold symptoms.
